Arranged to play Nairn Dunbar as part of a holiday to the area. In the end I booked a round at Nairn Dunbar together with one at Nairn GC as part of a two round deal. In that regard this is well worth doing in my view. The pro-shop staff at NDGC were very helpful in sorting me out a tee time and how to organise a booking at NGC. With everything organised I played as a single. Although I didn’t have a course guide the course is logically laid out and not difficult to navigate.
It has 3 sensible opening holes. Two shortish par 4’s followed by a nice par 3. These have very much of a links feel about them. The next 4 holes are strong par 4’s with more of a hybrid links / heathland feel. Each very different especially in terms of the greens. The 8th hole is a cracking par 3. Classic short hole on a links course. 4 deep pot bunkers strung across the front of the green with high, riveted faces, and a small bowl of a green behind which has a bank as a back stop. Too long though and a 3 is unlikely. In my view this is the best hole on the course. Anything from a 2 to 5 is possible. The 9th is the first par 5 and plays with the prevailing breeze. Reachable in two if all the elements are in your favour. A good finish to the front 9. You are at the furthest point from the clubhouse. The next 3 holes are a par 4, a 3 and another 4. All playing back towards the clubhouse so with the breeze against. These are also nearest the sea. 13 is a very nice par 5. From here there is a bit of water to avoid in terms of a ditch that runs both alongside and across some holes. The 17th is where you are potentially most at risk as it is both across and off to the right of the fairway ready to catch an errant tee shot. The course is finished with a strong par 5 played from a fairway that sits well below the level of the green. As a consequence you can only see the top of the flag stick so a laser distance measurer is a useful tool to have. Interesting tiered green as well to make this a tricky, but fun, finish to the round.
The greens and bunkering were all in very good order and the fairways, rough etc. were fair and generous in most places. As mentioned, much of the course has a hybrid feel especially as the are a number of tree lined holes with heather and gorse providing tricky conditions off the fairways.
I would very happily play again and recommend it to visitors to the area. Nairn Dunbar is a good test of golf, especially for a mid-handicapper such as myself, but equally a single figure player is unlikely to tear it up or high handicapper feel taken apart. Assuming the weather conditions are reasonable. Add to this a very nice clubhouse and excellent pro-shop staff and you have the makings of a very pleasant few hours on a golf course most players should really enjoy it. I certainly did.

2nd time back and was just as enjoyable as the 1st time. Playing summers greens off mats. Come summer the fairways will be amazing.
In the clubhouse the food was tasty and served from friendly staff.

Good morning Sarah, firstly, thank you for your prompt response, very much appreciated.
I can confirm that a group of 9 who came up from Aberdeen all had a great day.
We are looking forward to a return visit sometime later in the season using our reciprocal arrangement.
