The golf club is much more than just a venue for playing golf, although that is of course the primary role; it is a well-organised establishment that provides members and visitors with a range of services, facilities, and experiences. The effective operation of a golf club relies on the collaboration of the operational staff, club management, individual members, numerous volunteers and both the professional golf staff & the greenkeeping team, all working together to ensure the smooth day-to-day running and long-term success of the club.

Management and Governance.

Nairn Dunbar golf club is overseen by a committee formed from members of the club, who are responsible for setting the club’s strategic direction, establishing policies, and ensuring financial stability. The club general manager handles the day-to-day running of the club, including staff supervision, member relations, and the implementation of policies set by the board, among many other duties, they are assisted by the club’s administrative office and the office manager.

Key Positions on the Committee

The Nairn Dunbar golf club committee is central to the smooth running of the club, guiding both policy and the everyday experience of its members.  Our committee structure includes several core roles, each contributing unique expertise and oversight.

Roles when up for renewal are usually filled at the Annual Club AGM, with a proposer and seconder.

Club Captain

The leader of the club committee, they oversee meetings, steer discussions, and ensure that the club’s strategic vision is upheld. The Club Captain may also represent the club at social events such as the prizegiving for both club events and the many open competitions held each year.

 Club Vice Captain

Supports the Club Captain, standing in as required for meetings, social events etc.  While also building experience in this role to prepare them to operate as the club captain.

 

Secretary

Responsible for club administration, the Secretary organises meetings, prepares agendas and minutes, manages correspondence, and ensures the club complies with relevant regulations and policies.

Treasurer

The Treasurer oversees the management of the club’s finances, including auditing, budgeting, handling accounts, and preparing financial reports for the committee and membership.

Match & Handicap Secretary

This person organises club competitions, maintains the fixture list, and ensures events run smoothly—from entry processes to prize-giving.  Handicap Responsibilities include managing player handicaps according to the rules set by the relevant golf authorities, and ensuring accurate records for competition play.

Greens (or Course) Convenor

Oversees the maintenance and development of the golf course, working closely with the greenkeeping staff to ensure the course remains in prime condition.  They also coordinate on new course projects and appropriate budgeting, including new equipment and maintenance schedules as required.

Social Convenor

Organises social events and activities beyond the course, helping to nurture the club’s community spirit and wider appeal.

Junior Convenor

This convenor is focused on the development and implementation of junior golf at Nairn Dunbar, including co-ordinating coaching sessions, junior competitions, fundraising and junior social activities.

Additional sub committees may be created to work in more specialised areas or projects and can operate on short term periods as and when required.  Together, the main committee and the sub committees, its various volunteers and the paid staff ensure the club operates effectively, fairly, and in a way that best serves its members.

 The club also has a few honorary President positions.  These are individuals who have contributed extensively to the club, usually in an official committee role and have made a significant contribution to the success of the club. 

The position of President recognises that service for Nairn Dunbar Golf Club.

Club Management & Membership and Visitor Services Team – Club Office.

The club office consists of the club’s general manager, and office manager, they handle all the daily activities of operating the golf club.  The golf club operates primarily on a membership basis, offering various types of memberships such as full, junior, or social memberships, each with its own privileges and fees. Members are entitled to use the club’s facilities, participate in competitions, and enjoy social events. The club also welcome non-members or visitors for a fee, allowing them access to the course or clubhouse amenities.  All membership and visitor services are handled by the club office with assistance from the Professional shop staff where appropriate.  Membership renewals for instance are handled annually by the office when due and advanced visitor payments for either competitions or just visiting rounds are usually booked online or direct with the club office.  Most of the day-to-day enquiries at the golf club are managed directly with the office.

Nairn Dunbar Professional Golf Operations Team – Pro Shop.

The golf operations team coordinates tee times, manages daily tee times, oversees competition entry’s, and provides coaching or golf lessons. The professional staff, including the club professionals and assistants, offer advice, organise tournaments, and run junior development programmes. The pro shop also supplies equipment, apparel, and accessories, further supporting members and visitors.

Golf Course Maintenance Team – Greenkeepers.

One of the most crucial aspects of the club operations is maintaining the golf course at a high standard. A small team of greenkeepers, led by our head greenkeeper, ensures the course is kept in top condition. This includes mowing fairways and greens, managing irrigation systems, overseeing landscaping, and performing repairs as needed. Maintenance schedules are carefully planned to minimise disruption to play and to present the course in the best condition possible for the time of year.

Clubhouse and Facilities Team – Catering & Bar Staff.

The clubhouse serves as the social hub of the golf club for all our members and visitors, offering amenities such as a restaurant, bar, locker rooms, pro shop, and event spaces.  Our professional staff manage food and beverage services, retail operations, and organise functions such as tournaments, charity events, and a range of private events. These services help create a welcoming environment and while helping to generate additional revenue for the club.
